IBFI Team engages with local community in Sirajganj, Bangladesh 

A field visit was organized to Sirajganj District to meet local communities in the selected project areas and understand the ground situation. A local well known NGO, Manab Mukti Sangstha (MMS) hosted the team comprising of IWMI and IWM members and took them to flood affected villages where the team had the chance to interact with the local people for site selection for pilot implementation and to understand how they cope with floods and what disaster risk reduction mechanisms are in place.

Index-based Flood Insurance (IBFI) - Bangladesh Chapter begins 

Jointly organized by IWMI and Institute of Water Modeling (IWM), the project inception meeting took place in Dhaka on the 4th of November 2015. The IBFI project is being funded by CCAFS and MAFF (Japan) will be undertaken in Sirajganj and Gaibandha districts in Bangladesh. The meeting was attended by higher officials in the Bangladesh government like the Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board (Engr. Md. Ismail Hossain, BWDB), and Additional Secretary Mr. Satya Brata Saha (Ministry of Disaster Management). In addition to technical organizations and NGOs, there was enthusiastic participation from insurance industry namely Pragati Insurance, Green Delta and Swiss Re.
